The Walk Review

Hello and Welcome Reviewers!

Today I’m reviewing The Walk.

Short Synopsis:

In 1974, high-wire artist Philippe Petit recruits a team of people to help him realize his dream: to walk the immense void between the World Trade Center towers.**

Non-Spoiler Review:

This movie would be extra amazing in IMAX. There are a lot of visuals that worked well for Robert Zemeckis. Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s performance is top notch in this story based on true events. You will enjoy yourself while clutching on to your barf bag. Did I mention the visuals are insane? People who have a fear of heights should watch out.

This movie review of The Walk contains possible spoilers. You’ve been warned.

** Warning, Possible Spoilers!!!! **

The Good:

A lot of people online mentions the visuals of the movie when reviewing it. Let me join the bandwagon and say yes, the camera pans was a key factor in this movie. It increased the scope of Petit’s walks by tenfold. There are a good number of scenes that have things jump out at you and make you feel like you’re right there with the main character. They did an awesome job with how mostly everything looks with the exception of one item that I will mention in the bad section.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s performance was amazing! He brought a lot of personality to the character of Phillipe Petit. His French was very close to a native speaker of the language. There is no doubt that he carried a lot of the movie and excelled at it.
This movie showcased a ton of emotions. There’s action, comedy, and some drama during the runtime of the movie. You have some funny moments between Petit and his accomplices. JP was probably the best character besides Petit. He was charismatic and brought a lot of funny dialogue.

The Bad:

There are a lot of great moments of this movie. The only thing that sticks out is the CGI of the final walk as Petit is crossing back and forth between the towers. You could see that he was in a green screen room but that’s just me nitpicking a bit.

Alright I have one more thing I didn’t like about the movie. Petit steps on a nail and that gives him an injury. The camera zooms in on his foot during “the walk” making you believe something might happen to make him struggle a bit but nothing happens. He goes on to do multiple tricks, sit downs and turns with near perfect accuracy. Is he Superman?

The Hypothetical:

It would be a different movie if Petit had more obstacles in his way. It felt like he had little resistance when executing the moments that lead up to the tight rope walk. No security guards really stopped them at all and he just sneaked by everyone.
