Adapted from the beloved literary classic, THE CALL OF THE WILD vividly brings to the screen the story of Buck, a big-hearted dog whose blissful domestic life is turned upside down when he is suddenly uprooted from his California home and transplanted to the exotic wilds of the Alaskan Yukon during the Gold Rush of the 1890s. As the newest rookie on a mail delivery dog sled team–and later its leader–Buck experiences the adventure of a lifetime, ultimately finding his true place in the world and becoming his own master.

Characters
Buck was an amazing character! They did a great job showing the growth and emotions of this animal. Plus they coupled together Buck with great side characters like Omar Sy to help shape the future of the main character.

Reviewer's Curve
The Call of the Wild was entertaining and all of the pieces brought a lot of fun to the entire movie. The only thing that really annoyed me was one of the human villains of the movie. He was a gnat and they could have used something else for storytelling.

Plot
Unfortunately I felt the plot needed a bit more to it. Luckily enough everything else in this movie deflected each other to make it enjoyable.

Pacing
Start to finish was smooth and barely dragged. The ultimate tell of a boring movie is the amount of times you have to check your watch and I barely checked it. Each act was forwarded well and there were rarely any slow points
My biggest upset for this movie was the character of Hal. He was the main villain of the movie which made no sense. It would have been fine if the main character was Thornton but he was just a side character. Most of his hatred was because he felt Thornton has done him wrong.
Even though I liked the character of Buck I felt his model was off a bit. He should have been a huskie or something along those lines. I feel him taking over the pack was a bit weird since he was basically a house dog. His spirit animal was a wolf too so maybe pick a dog that’s close to it.
Dwight's Hypothetical Corner
Let's say I change one thing. Maybe that one thing will make the Rhythm Section better or more watchable.
Hal shouldn’t have been the ending villain. It should have been the dog from the snow team. There could have been some tension as he returns to prove he’s the best. It would have been unexpected and it could have been the final proving ground for Buck.
