** Warning, Possible Spoilers!!!! **

The Good:

  • This movie catered a lot to the fans of the TV show. If you love the TV series then you will love this movie. All of the antics from the show is included in this movie. It brings all of their quirky jokes and adds a semi-live action feel to it. They even had a segment with the birds singing the theme song in a quite funny way.
  • The CGI was done very well. When the main cast is above water they look amazing. The mix in graphics and color makes for a good showing of them on the surface world. Each character had a unique texture to them.
  • Antonio Banderas was a good fit for this movie. He will remind you a bit of Jack Sparrow in the first Pirates movie. Banderas mixed well with the story of Spongebob and didn’t feel like a wasted character at all.

The Bad:

It felt like a long episode of the Spongebob Squarepants TV show. I’m not sure if you should purchase tickets to get a product that’s very similar to a free TV show. It worked quite well for the movie but at the same time it would have you thinking a bit.  There’s not much else to say that’s bad about the movie because it follows the TV series when it came to the material. This is the huge detracting thing for me.

The Hypothetical:

It would be a different movie if the powers of the book was eliminated. It served a purpose but it was confusing to think about the magic surrounding it. The book never mentions a pirate in it so what story was he reading. This is just me nitpicking at this point but they could have change that to something else, maybe a dark figure from bikini bottom or something.
