Hello and Welcome Reviewers!
Today I’m reviewing The Martian.
Short Synopsis:
During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive.**
Non-Spoiler Review:
Go and see The Martian starring Matt Damon. He’s hilarious and brings a lot to the movie. If you love Apollo 13 and Castaway then you will love this movie. You will not be disappointed with purchasing tickets to this movie.
This movie review of The Martian contains possible spoilers. You’ve been warned.
** Warning, Possible Spoilers!!!! **
The Good:
Matt Damon was the man in this movie. He brought an Oscar level performance to this role. It felt like he was emoting Tom Hanks from Castaway for a lot of scenes during this movie. He was very captivating and held his own on Mars. Mark Watney is an enjoyable character with a lot of great qualities.
Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jessica Chastain, Sean Bean, and Michael Pena all played pivotal roles in the development and continuation of the movie. It’s like having an amazing squad on a basketball team. They’re like the Olympic team of acting and they just won their championship match.
Donald Glover receives his own mention because of the clutch plan his character came up with to save Mark Watney from Mars. He was instrumental in the planning process and basically gave the entire crew some hope in bringing back their team member home safely. In the few moments he showed up on the screen he brought a lot of funny moments through environmental humor.
As usual Ridley Scott brings a visual masterpiece to the big screen. Lately his stories weren’t the best but at least this one made up for it. You really believe Mark Watney is on Mars and the crew is in space. I give a lot of credit to Scott and his visual team. They did everything right made this movie into a visual masterpiece.
The Bad:
Let me first say that this movie was freaking awesome. The only thing I didn’t like was the wasteful use of Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara and Sebastian Stan. You could have used three unknowns in their roles and this movie would have been fine. I understand you’re trying to bring as many caliber actors/actresses as possible but they didn’t do anything too spectacular in this movie.
The Hypothetical:
It would be a different movie if the ending would consist of some tragic event but then again it wouldn’t detract or improve the movie at all. This movie is pretty solid and anything I pick would be a small item.
