Beyond the Lights Review

Hello and Welcome Reviewers!

Today I’m reviewing Beyond the Lights.

Short Synopsis:

The pressures of fame have superstar singer Noni on the edge, until she meets Kaz, a young cop who works to help her find the courage to develop her own voice and break free to become the artist she was meant to be.**

Non-Spoiler Review:

Beyond the lights is a near perfect movie for a date night. It shows great moments of being there for the one you love. Two people come together and try to make it work between their completely different lives.

I give this movie an 8 out of 10.

** Warning, Possible Spoilers!!!! **

The Good:

  • This movie feels like a great outing for a couple. It talks a lot about different topics that comes up in relationships. You have the good and bad moments in a relationship plus some a little spicy love scene.
  • The relationship between Kaz and Noni was amazing. They both looked great together and played off each other quite well. There are great scenes with both of them. Kaz was a strong guy who didn’t take any crap from anyone while keeping himself very respectful. You can see Kaz breaking down the walls of Noni and bringing out true emotions and views.

The Bad:

The ending was kind of cliche with them ending together after the big falling out. This movie spent most of the screen time going away from the norm of dating and it was refreshing. It was sad to see the ending turn to the typical romantic ending.

Machine Gun Kelly was horrid in this movie. His involvement in the movie was playing a part of his lifestyle and it took away from the movie. They could have put someone else in this movie and it would have been better. It felt like he spent a short time taking some acting lessons and made all of his scenes sloppy.

This isn’t really a bad item per-say just a slight disappointing item. Danny Glover doesn’t say his iconic ” I’m too old for this bleep”. When you see him pop up on the screen you’re really waiting for it. The thing that doesn’t help is that he’s a cop too so it should be second nature.

The Hypothetical:

It would be a different movie if Kaz and Noni didn’t get caught while taking their trip alone. Maybe they could have started over with occupations. Noni could do the Indy work she wanted while staying under the radar and Kaz could run for office. Who knows what could have happened during their peaceful stay. It was a great couple of scenes while it lasted.
