Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don’t know where they are, or how they got there. They don’t know they’ve been chosen… for a very specific purpose… The Hunt. In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, a group of globalist elites gathers for the very first time at a remote Manor House to hunt humans for sport. But the elites’ master plan is about to be derailed because one of the hunted, Crystal (Betty Gilpin, GLOW), knows The Hunters’ game better than they do. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off, one by one, as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman (two-time Oscar (R) winner Hilary Swank) at the center of it all.

Characters
The characters played their roll in the Hunt. You need some canon fodder to really appreciate a hunting movie. The only character that really fails is the main villain. There's nothing about her that makes me want to root for her to fail or even care.

Reviewer's Curve
The Hunt was a promising movie that features interesting death scenes and a lot of gore. If you're not a fan of blood and guts then this isn't your type of movie. The entire feel of it all was a bit wacky after the first half of the run-time.

Plot
The plot itself is extremely simple. You don't really find out the twist until the final act. After you find out the reason why they're doing everything you just lose interest. I wouldn't put it on the level of the Escape Room movie but it could be the blueprint for that world.

Pacing
The Hunt's pacing was fine. You're entertained by the deaths and you're rarely given a moment to rest for long. The only drop off points happens towards the end with the "final boss" where you feel it drag a bit.
The big reveal of the reason why they picked all of the contestants was a bit stupid. You basically have folks who did a post online about not liking the main villain getting picked. The realization that they only did it because of a rumor being spread about the manor was insane as well. That just made me check out of the movie a bit because the main villain seem wasteful. They should have picked something else with a bit more substance.
There’s still an issue with Hollywood giving away too much in their trailers. This movie had majority of the good parts popping up in the trailer. Granted, there’s not much to the movie besides people getting killed so it would be hard to market but still.
Examples:
- The car death where she kicks him out of the car.
- The 1st kill in the airplane.
- The rest of the movie, haha!
Dwight's Hypothetical Corner
Let's say I change one thing. Maybe that one thing will make this movie better or more watchable.
The main thing that goes against this movie are the trailers! They should only include maybe 25 percent of the scenes in the movie. If we’re looking at the movie itself then a better main villain. The character of Hillary Swank was interesting in the trailers but her driving force was completely stupid. Make it something like each contestant had a hand to play in the death of her love. You could connect the dots and see she’s calculating and a force to be reckoned with in the end.
