The Good
The pacing of this movie was great. It didn’t leave the viewer with any time to get bored at all. Each sequence held your attention.
Chris Evans’ performance was awesome. His portrayal of Steve Rogers gets better with each movie. He’s in great shape and his timing improves with each minute on the screen. You could feel that Steve Rogers is a man out of place. The best sequence is when he’s talking to Nick Fury and gives this line of “This isn’t freedom. This is fear.”
The action in this movie was the best so far in the Marvel cinematic universe. The incorporation of MMA star George St. Pierre was a great move. You could see the improvement in the fighting sequences. Captain America’s fighting skills shined brightly.
Hydra came out with a vengeance. Every second you found a new Hydra member. They started to sprout like wild weeds.
Sebastian Stan did great for his return as Bucky Barnes a.k.a. The Winter Soldier. He played as a great antagonist for Captain America. Stan’s performance stood out in this movie. The reveal of his character to the audience made everyone, except comic readers, shocked. You could hear movie goers whisper “that’s his friend” while the camera focuses on Stan’s face.
The Bad
The scene with Peggy Carter felt like it didn’t really belong in the movie. It was a nice scene to watch but in the end, it’s something they could have took out.
This might be an unpopular choice but half of the scenes with Black Widow really felt like wasted time. She had a few great scenes like the highway scene against The Winter Soldier, the scene in the head quarters against Pierce and the henchmen, and her hacking the computer systems for Captain America. Every other moment in the movie she felt like a character that’s there to fill a space.
Nick Fury and the idea of him leaving a trail to his old neighborhood for Pierce to track didn’t sit right with us. This is the super spy Nick Fury and he failed to cover his tracks on the master plan of hiring goons to stop his S.H.I.E.L.D. freight ship so he can steal his information from it. That’s something a rookie would do unfortunately.
