The Good

This movie showcased a lot of hilarious jokes. It was on point with each comedic moment. It would be very hard to mention any joke in the movie that didn’t get any laughs from the audience. The spacing between jokes was top-notch and managed to keep the audience laughing.

Hill and Tatum really shined as the new age buddy cops. They took the chemistry from 21 Jump Street and expanded on it in this movie.

The reveal of the Captain’s daughter being the one Schmidt had sex with was pure genius. You could even feel the tension between Schmidt and the Captain all during the family meal. One of the best scenes of this movie was Jenko finally piecing together the reason of the tension between Schmidt and the Captain. He ended up running around and had the audience in an uproar of laughter.

The Bad

If you didn’t like 21 Jump Street then you might not like 22 Jump Street. It’s almost the same movie. The run-on joke in the film is “Do exactly the same thing”. It’s like they just took the script from 21 Jump Street, scratched out all of the old jokes and added new jokes.

This movie lacked on putting Jenko or Schmidt in any real danger whatsoever. Both characters barely struggled with their adversaries and at times they dispatched them with yawning ease.

Jenko being able to stay at the college after the case was “completed” made little sense. They would have taken him out of the college because the case was over. He wouldn’t be able to decide to stay longer in the college.

22 Jump Street (2014) movie poster

22 Jump Street (2014) is directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord and stars Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and Ice Cube. It runs 112 minutes and is rated R. You can look up the full cast and crew on IMDb. You might also like my The Incredible Hulk review.

DC's Hypothetical Corner

Let’s say I change one thing. Maybe that one thing will make this movie better or more watchable.

It would be a different movie if Captain Dickson was the drug supplier at MC State. If Ice Cube’s character was the bad guy then it would make for a very interesting twist. Both Jenko and Schmidt would be forced to take down the Captain and one of them could possibly take command at Jump Street. You rarely see Cube play as a villain in movies, think about it. Question of the week: What is your favorite buddy cop film and why?
