We Are Your Friends Review

Hello and Welcome Reviewers!

Today I’m reviewing We Are Your Friends.

Short Synopsis:

Caught between a forbidden romance and the expectations of his friends, aspiring DJ Cole Carter attempts to find the path in life that leads to fame and fortune.**

Non-Spoiler Review:

Unfortunately this movie is very forgettable. Zac Efron is a great actor and whoever is your booking agent is not your friend, pun intended. If you’re a fan of the star then you could watch this movie to see him. Otherwise I would save this for a bored Saturday morning at home.

This We Are Your Friends movie review contains possible spoilers. You’ve been warned.

** Warning, Possible Spoilers!!!! **

The Good:

Zac Efron is a pretty good actor and he does the best he could with what he had in front of him. He was semi-passable as a starting DJ. No one could say he did a bad job in this role. His reaction to things make you buy the movie for a while. It’s unfortunate that the rest of the movie could help him portrayal the role more.

The concept of the movie is interesting in some points. This doesn’t excuse the horrible movie but you see potential in it. The theory of the DJ and what it takes to become a great one is fascinating. The topic of BPMs came up and it was smartly done.

The Bad:

The biggest fault with this movie is its lack of interest in the things happening in the movie. I know this sounds like I’m contradicting myself but hear me out. When you’re watching the movie you can’t help but look at your watch or phone to check for the run-time. That’s a bad sign when you’re watching a movie. It felt like they just pieced together all of the scenes of the movie and didn’t care how it came across to the audience. I was really… really bored watching this movie.

The Hypothetical:

It would be a different movie if they made more sense with the script. It felt like the movie was just going after a while. You’re not really paying attention to the script and you find yourself zoning out while watching the movie.
